[National Champs Update] Bronze for James Talbot and Strong Row from Eoghan!

A huge congratulations to James Talbot for securing a Bronze medal in the PR3 Men’s 1x earlier this afternoon! James had a hard-fought race to secure a podium finish close behind Mac Russell (Qld) and Jed Altschwager (SA) to put BRC onto the medal count in the 2018 Champs.

James rowed hard and fought back from a slightly slower start to row through the fourth-placed Sydney RC Sculler Ben Gibson – after 1500m only 0.15 seconds separated the two scullers, with James eventually finishing 8.71 seconds ahead.

James will be racing tomorrow in the PR3 Mixed double with partner Nikki Ayers, who also finished 3rd in her own PR3 W1x race moments ago, before racing in a composite PR3 4+, sprints PR3 1x and as NSW’s representative at the Interstate Regatta on Sunday.

Also racing in the PR3 4+ will be Ruby Sutherland and Matilda-Slater Phillips, while Kevin Wall has had to pull out of the PR3 1x and 4+ events due to injury.

Earlier this week, Eoghan Kilbridge of the BRC Men’s Open Squad also competed in the Men’s Under 21 Lightweight single scull – a substantial challenge given this was Eoghan’s first time at the national level, he was recovering from illness, and he was competing three age-groups above his current age! Although Eoghan narrowly did not make it out of the repecharges in a very competitive category (with 28 competitors, 4 heats and 2 repecharges), Eoghan raced well and gained valuable experience for next year’s campaign.

Please congratulate James and Eoghan and wish all our competitors well for the rest of their races this week! Please also keep Kevin in your thoughts and we are looking forward to seeing him back on the water and stronger than ever in the future.
